Most Kirby games take the titular protagonist far from his home on Planet Popstar. Kirby has spent decades traveling outer space and going to all kinds of remarkable planets that inform each game’s mechanic. Therefore, Kirby fans might therefore have expected that Kirby and the Forgotten Land is all about a journey to another planet, but apparently that’s not quite the case. Instead, Kirby and his friends have been pulled through some kind of interdimensional portal, bringing them to the post-apocalyptic world where the Beast Pack lives....

Among its selling points introduced during the February 2022 Nintendo Direct is “Mouthful Mode” transformations, in which Kirby tries to eat something too big and becomes stuck on top of it, gaining access to object characteristics in new ways. That Direct also debuted the idea of “evolved” copy abilities, offering players the chance to upgrade their regular abilities by going to a shop in Waddle Dee Town.
