The Kirby 30th Anniversary Music Fest was announced back in March, just before the release of Kirby and the Forgotten Land. It featured a large big band ensemble playing multiple medleys of music that sampled from the vast number of games the series has released in the years it’s been around. Not only did the event look at Kirby’s past, but it also gave a glimpse at the series’ future.

During the celebratory event, viewers and attendees got to see an overview trailer for Kirby’s Dream Buffet that revealed the game’s three different modes while showcasing a few dedicated maps for all of them. An English version of the trailer was uploaded shortly after the concert ended. At the end, fans were given the release date of August 17. Interestingly, the Japanese trailer shows a price tag of ¥1,500 Japanese Yen, while the English trailer doesn’t say if players will need to pay for the game or not.
The three modes found in the game are “Race,” “Minigame,” and “Battle Royale.” In each mode, players need to eat the most strawberries and other rare snacks around the maps to win. While “Minigame” is a rather vague name, it seems to be a mode focusing on letting fans gather strawberries to make Kirby bigger within a small-time frame without the traps and pitfalls seen in Battle Royale mode.
The trailer also confirms its own unique version of the Kirby series’ Copy Abilities, as fans can inhale special snacks found in the game to obtain different “Food Copy Abilities” that match the snack Kirby eats. Some examples shown are Doughnut Wheel, a Cupcake Tornado, and Gummy Worm spring Hi-Jump abilities.
The English version of the video came with additional information regarding what fans can earn with their winnings in Kirby’s Dream Buffet. Fans can unlock skins and cosmetics for Kirby, special starting line cosmetics, and new stages depending on how many strawberries they collect. However, the lack of information regarding if the game is free or not may keep fans from downloading it when it releases, especially as the free-to-play Fall Guys is rather stiff competition Kirby’s next title.
Kirby’s Dream Buffet is set to launch on August 17 for Nintendo Switch.
