In fact, the full extent of Nintendo’s Copy Ability experimentation may not have been revealed yet. Fans have seen tons of classic Kirby Copy Abilities in the game’s trailers so far, ranging from Sword to Bomb to Needle, as well as some new abilities that ought to mix things up. However, there’s a chance that these are just one part of a long list of Copy Abilities that Kirby can obtain in Forgotten Land. The Weapon Shop in Waddle Dee Town may imply that Kirby and the Forgotten Land is filled to the brim with Copy Abilities old and new.

Clues in Waddle Dee’s Weapon Shop
In Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Kirby can visit the Weapon Shop in Waddle Dee Town to evolve his Copy Abilities, giving them new skills that diversify his fighting style. The new Forgotten Land trailer suggests that, if Kirby has used a Copy Ability before, it’ll be equipped on a mannequin in the Weapon Shop. Players can approach a mannequin to inspect the evolution they have equipped or to evolve that Copy Ability. Aside from its known function, however, the Weapon Shop strongly implies that Nintendo and HAL Laboratory still have quite a few Copy Abilities left to reveal.
The mannequins in the Weapon Shop are arranged on two long shelves to either side of the Waddle Dee, and the mannequins themselves are pretty small. There are only two Copy Abilities in the Weapon Shop in the trailer, and based on the way they’re spaced, the Weapon Shop’s shelves could fit a ton of mannequins standing shoulder to shoulder. It’s hard to say exactly how many Copy Abilities there will be without knowing how much space goes between each mannequin, but if they fit together snugly when the shelves are full, then the post-apocalyptic wastes of Forgotten Land could hold at least a dozen more Copy Abilities that haven’t been seen yet.

More Copy Ability Experimentation
If there really are more Copy Abilities in Kirby and the Forgotten Land than fans know, then that’s great news because of the ability evolution system. The more Copy Abilities there are in Kirby and the Forgotten Land, the more possible evolutions HAL Laboratory could come up with, which will keep fans collecting resources and engaging with Forgotten Land’s world. HAL could’ve only had a handful of Copy Abilities in Forgotten Land, sparing its energy for Mouthful Modes and Copy Ability evolutions, but it seems to be going all out instead.
Including tons of Copy Abilities alongside the new evolution system and Mouthful Modes poses some risk, but it’s a risk worth taking. HAL says Kirby will enter a new age with Forgotten Land, which means that it likely intends to be as experimental as possible so that it can learn a lot while deciding Kirby’s future. Kirby can only gain from experimenting with staples like the Sword, Bomb, and Cutter abilities; Forgotten Land deserves to have unique evolutions for niche Copy Abilities like Poison, Doctor, Mirror, and more. Kirby and the Forgotten Land already looks like a bold move from Nintendo and HAL, but if the Weapon Shop’s scale is a sign of things to come, then fans may only have seen the tip of the iceberg.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land releases March 25, 2022 for Nintendo Switch.
